This Privacy Policy applies to Anime Shimeji Screen Companion, also known within the app as Pocket Companions (Google Play package: com.magicgames.pocketcompanion). The app is published on Google Play by cool math games ("the developer", "we", "us"). It is an Android app that places a small animated companion on your screen and lets you bond with it. This policy explains what data the app handles.
The app has no account, no login, and no server of ours. Almost everything — your name, settings, and bond progress — is stored only on your device. We do not sell your data ourselves. To improve stability and the product journey, release builds send anonymous crash reports via Google Firebase Crashlytics and limited usage and ad-performance events via Google Firebase Analytics — see "Crash reporting" and "Product analytics". The free app is funded by ads served through Google AdMob mediation (which can include Google, Meta Audience Network, and Unity Ads) and optional in-app purchases processed by Google Play — see "Ads & network" and "Purchases".
A few optional "real-life reaction" features are turned OFF by default. You can switch them on in Settings → Real-life reactions, and each asks for notification access first:
If you never enable these, the app uses no notification access and no sensors. One small nuance: while music is playing, the app may notice that audio is active (a yes/no answer from Android — never what you are listening to) so the companion can invite you to enable the music reaction. Nothing is recorded or transmitted.
The app keeps a small set of preferences in private storage on your device, readable only by the app: your optional display name; the active companion; bond progress & in-app "petals" economy (cosmetics you own/equip); settings (overlay, theme, language, notifications, the Focus-ritual toggle, the ads consent choice, and the opt-in reaction toggles, all default off). This data does not leave the device through the app (except the system-backup case below).
Each reaction is off until you turn it on, which sends you to the notification-access screen. If access is not granted, the toggle reverts to off, and the feature does nothing.
Earlier versions included a weather reaction (approximate location) and a "walk with you" step reaction (activity recognition). Both were removed — the app no longer requests location or activity-recognition, and makes no weather network call.
The free app is funded by ads through Google AdMob mediation: rewarded videos you choose to watch, a small banner on the in-app hub screens, and occasional interstitials at natural breaks (never on the floating companion or in a photo). Depending on the auction, an ad can be supplied by Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, or Unity Ads. These providers may process the Android advertising ID and technical device/app information to serve, measure, prevent fraud, and report ads. Before any ad loads, you're shown a consent choice (Google's User Messaging Platform): in the EEA/UK you can pick personalized or limited (non-personalized) ads, and change it later in Settings → Ad personalization. To find and fix crashes, the app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, it sends Google a crash report: the error and stack trace, your device model and Android version, the app version, the device's state at the time (such as available memory, orientation, and whether the device is rooted), the time of the crash, and a random Crashlytics installation identifier used to group a session's reports. These reports are diagnostic only — they contain no name, contacts, messages, photos, notification content, or precise location. Crash data is processed by Google as our data processor and is retained for a limited period (about 90 days). See Google's Firebase privacy & security.
To understand whether the app's core journey and advertising experience work, the app uses Google Firebase Analytics for limited events such as screen and feature views, onboarding/overlay milestones, companion unlocks, overlay-menu actions, reaction discovery, review-flow results, screen-capture results, and ad requests, loads, impressions, failures, rewards, and estimated-value callbacks. Events use controlled technical fields such as screen/feature name, ad format, placement, reason, ad source, companion identifier, method, currency, and estimated value; they do not contain your display name, notification text, media content, photos, contacts, or precise location. Firebase attaches a random app-instance identifier and basic device context (device model, OS/app version, and coarse country) so events can be counted. Google processes this telemetry on our behalf to improve stability, onboarding, retention, and ad delivery. See Google's Firebase privacy & security.
The app has no account system — no sign-up, login, email, password, or third-party sign-in. The only personal-ish data is the optional display name, stored locally and used for greetings and the optional photo watermark. You can change it any time or leave it blank.
From the floating companion's menu you can take a screenshot or a short screen video of your own screen with the companion on it. This uses Android's screen-capture system (MediaProjection):
The app does not read your camera, existing photos, microphone, or contacts.

The app also reads the battery level at runtime to pause the companion on low battery; this is used on-device and never stored or transmitted.
The app uses Google AdMob mediation to show ads (rewarded videos you opt to watch, a hub-screen banner, and occasional full-screen interstitials at natural breaks such as the end of a Focus session; never on the overlay or in photos). Configured mediation partners are Meta Audience Network and Unity Ads. AdMob and a participating partner may collect and use the Android advertising ID, technical device/app information, ad requests, impressions, and estimated ad value to serve, measure, secure, and report ads. Ad personalization follows the consent choice described in "Ads & network"; the choice is propagated to participating mediation partners where supported. The app offers optional in-app purchases (petal packs and cosmetic content) processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment details — Google Play handles payment, and the app only records locally what you own. Refunds follow Google Play's policy.
Android's standard backup may include the app's local settings (which can contain your display name and progress) in your device's backup to your own Google account. This is an Android function — we do not receive this data. You can control or disable backups in your device settings.
The app is general-audience and is not directed at children under the age of digital consent in your region, and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling it removes everything stored locally.
If the app's data practices change (for example, new ad providers, accounts, or network features), this policy and the Google Play Data Safety declaration will be updated before that version is released.
